Skewen 'A Wander Through The Years'
Skewen is a village in the parish of Coedffranc in what was the old County of Glamorganshire, now Neath/Port Talbot.
The parish of Coedffranc was allegedly one of the biggest parishes in the U.K. Originally part of Cadoxton - Juxta - Neath, it became a parish in its own right in 1843 - 1844 and a parish church, St. Johns was consecrated in 1851.
The border in the east is the brook 'Y Scuan' from where it is believed the name of Skewen is derived. On the other side of the brook is the parish of Dyffryn Clydach.
The southerly border of the parish is the Neath river which flows out into the Bristol Channel.
The border to the west is Crymlyn brook, which cuts through Crymlyn Bog. The other side of this is the City and County of Swansea.
To the north, Drymmau mountain appears as the natural barrier or border and the parish boundary runs someway along the top.
Also included in the parish are the villages of Crymlyn Burrows, Jersey Marine and after 1921 when the National Oil Refinery (B.P.) built houses for its key workers, the village of Llandarcy.
